SIMILAR project is now close to its end and partners are working on finalizing all the project’s outputs. During the past 6 months the project consortium finalised the Handbook “Awareness raising and empathy training measures for promoting work with migrants" and the Toolkit “Empowerment of migrants – collection of good practices”, which will be available on the project website very soon. This newsletter represents selected highlights of the work done during the last period of the project, through a sample of the latest project outputs and related news stories by project partners. SIMILAR project 3rd newsletter

During the second year of the project, the consortium developed the first drafts of the Handbook “Awareness raising and empathy training measures for promoting work with migrants" and the Toolkit “Empowerment of migrants – collection of good practices”. These two outputs were presented and tested by all partners, in Poland, Cyprus, Germany, Slovenia and Hungary, during two different kind of events: an Event for Teachers, Trainers, Educational Staff and an Event for Volunteers, Police, Municipal Police, City Guards. The feedback collected from the participants will be used for the improvement and finalization of the two tools of the project. SIMILAR project 2nd newsletter

As the first year of the SIMILAR project comes to its end, project partners have continued to work in order to produce the project outputs. As a result of this work, the Cross-Country Analysis report has been finalised and published on the project website, along with a brief version of the report, which has been translated in all partner languages. At the moment partners are working on the collection / adaptation of best practices for the development of the "Empowerment of migrants" Toolkit, as well as on the development of the Handbook “Awareness raising and empathy training measures for promoting work with migrants”, which aims to develop and implement effective methods focusing on a multicultural approach for those working closely with migrants, in order to promote multi-culturalism and support their…

Focus Group Interviews and In-depth Interviews in Poland

In order to examine the challenges related to supporting migrants in Poland a series of focus group interviews and in-depth interviews with migrants and experts have been conducted in the end of April 2017 in the premises of the University of Lodz. In total 40 interviewees (20 migrants and 20 experts) shared their experiences and opinions on educational and integrational needs of migrant communities. Research findings from Poland and other partner countries will be presented in the cross-country analysis report in the following months.

The integration of people immigrating presents a special challenge; it is a complex and long-term undertaking. Everyone should make an effort to foster the successful integration of immigrants. Those in favour of immigration are persons closely working with migrants, they represent educational sectors: teachers, trainers, educators; or social and care sectors: volunteers, social care workers, municipal guards, police etc. The project SIMILAR aims at fostering integration of migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers through a multi-dimensional approach which includes multicultural approach and empowering measures in the areas of integration and social welfare.
